Overview of Orchard Seaside
Orchard Seaside, commonly known as Riviera du Bronx or Hood Seaside, is the only beach in the Bronx . It is located east of Pelham Park, the largest public park in the city, and attracts large crowds in the summer.
The park offers a wide range of uses : hiking trails, bike paths, horse trails, golf courses, canoeing and kayaking, sports fields (basketball, volleyball and softball), tennis courts and picnic areas. We couldn’t have dreamed of anything higher!
Also, take some time to walk through the large industrial hub of Orchard Seaside along with its many food outlets and specialty shops.
Kids will quickly tire of the beach once they get to the Hunter Island Geological and Zoological Reserve and its marine ecosystem. Another site to explore with the family: the Bartow-Pell Mansion, a historic house museum.
If you prefer a quiet day away from the tourist crowds, stay away from Orchard Seaside on weekends and go on weekdays instead.
Metropolis Island
Strolling along the attractive shores of Orchard Seaside can be a delight… You can admire the views of Metropolis Island , another Bronx neighborhood located southwest of Pelham Bay.
The island is known for its seafood restaurants , with many lobster dishes to tempt the palate. There are over 30 dining establishments, from fast food (Johnny’s Reef) to Lobster Field, along with the SK French bistro and the Black Whale, which is famous for its desserts. Cosy is an Irish pub that is associated with the Metropolis Island Diner. While a few restaurants are closed during the winter months, most are open year-round.
The Metropolis Island Maritime Museum showcases maritime artifacts and antiques. The museum is located at 190 Fordham Avenue and is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons only. The Metropolis Island Theater Group is a local theater that hosts exhibitions year-round.

MTA Area Bus Operations Bx12 and Bx12 SBS buses serve Orchard Seaside during summer weekends.
