South Seaside is a neighborhood located on the east shore of Staten Island, just south of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge .
A three-kilometer promenade runs along the coast. Since its renovation, the area offers a full program and something for everyone.
The beach is a great place to sunbathe while enjoying the beautiful view of the Verrazzano Bridge. It is usually well maintained and clean and is monitored during the summer. During this time, it offers a number of events such as concerts to entertain visitors.
Cycling enthusiasts can enjoy cycling along the scenic route. Various activities such as kayaking, tennis and fishing (on the Ocean Breeze fishing pier) are also popular.
A park on the beach designed specifically for seniors. The park has chess boards, benches, and a petanque court.
For a bite to eat, restaurants and canteens are located throughout the area. For example, you can have a great pizza at one of the many pizzerias on the island.
South Fin Grill, steps from the beach, serves steaks and a variety of seafood dishes. The latter has a large outdoor bar and, on weekends, has a DJ.
After an eventful day, spend the night under the stars on the grounds of Fort Wadsworth Camp . There are showers and you can actually have a barbecue on site.
How to get there?
South Seaside is served by a variety of local and dedicated buses. SBS local buses S78 and S79 and dedicated buses SIM1, SIM1C, SIM7 and SIM10 stop at Hylan Boulevard.
Local bus lines S51, S81 and S52 and specific bus lines SIM5, SIM6 and SIM9 operate on Père Capodanno Avenue.
